Research Position Available - Flight Sciences


Associate Scientist or Laboratory Technologist - Mini-Drone Development

You will work with our team of researchers to design, develop, and build mini-drones for the implementation and testing of mini-drone algorithms. This is a multi-disciplinary robotics role which requires working and integrating hardware and software.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Drone system design, construction, testing, maintenance and repair
  • Mechanical, electrical, sensor, processor, radio, computer integration
  • Implementation and testing of software modules in C++ (e.g. collision avoidance) for mini-drones
Requirements
  • Bachelor Degree (Associate Scientist) or Diploma / NITEC (Laboratory Technologist) in engineering or related fields of study
  • Familiar with C++
  • Familiar with building and flying drones
  • Experience with flight control, robotics software, and simulation stack (e.g. PX4, ROS, QGroundControl, Gazebo) is a strong advantage
  • Experience with designing parts for 3D printing is a plus

Fresh graduates with relevant school project experience will be considered.

Research / Associate Scientist - Computer Vision with Artificial Intelligence Software Development

We are offering positions to conduct development in computer vision system with artificial intelligence (AI) for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).

We invite a motivated and creative engineer/researcher with the relevant qualifications and experience to join us as a Research / Associate Scientist.

The qualification and requirements are as follows:

  • Bachelor, Master or Phd Degree in computer science, computer vision, computer engineering or related field.
  • Good knowledge of object oriented programming language, and preferably strong experience in C/C++ , Python and MATLAB.
  • Good knowledge of computer vision and image processing and AI.
  • Good knowledge of OpenCV libraries.
  • Experience in UAV/Robotic simulation and embedded system.
  • Knowledge of ROS / ROS2 programming is preferred.

A successful candidate is required to be engaged in the development activities contributing to a vision-aided obstacle avoidance project, and participate in field deployment and operation. In the software development, the candidate will work on vision system for UAVs as well as develop and implement the vision algorithms proposed by senior members in the group. In addition, coding in C/++ is also required for UAV control logics.

Research / Associate Scientist - Advanced Multirotor UAV Guidance, Navigation and Control Research and Development

We are offering positions to conduct research and development of advanced guidance, navigation and control algorithms for challenging multirotor UAV flight profiles.

We invite motivated and creative engineers / researchers with the following relevant qualifications and experience to join us as Research / Associate Scientist.

  1. Bachelor, Master or Phd Degree in aeronautical, computer, control, electrical, mechanical, mechatronics engineering, computer science, or related fields.

  2. Knowledge and experience in the following is preferred:

    • Flight control algorithms
    • Extended Kalman filter algorithms
    • Optimization, motion planning algorithms
    • UAV simulation, operation and testing
    • Object oriented programming language, C/C++ and Matlab
    • Software structure of robotic systems
    • ROS / ROS2 programming
    • Embedded systems programming
    • PX4, Pixhawk or equivalent

The successful candidate will engage in the full research and development process, including software development, onboard implementation and flight testing.

Research Scientist / Associate Scientist - Drone Autonomy, Swarm Autonomy, Fault Prediction and Fault Tolerant Control

Applicants are invited for the position of Research Scientist or Associate Scientist to participate in research and development of solutions to challenging problems associated with Drone Autonomy, Swarm Autonomy, Radio Navigation, Fault Prediction and Fault Tolerant Control for Drones. These are multi-disciplinary areas and applicants who can contribute in any aspect are welcomed.

The applicant should possess a Bachelors, Masters or Doctoral degree in the area of Mathematics, Physics, or Aeronautical, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Computer, Software, Industrial Engineering, or Computer Science with background in dynamics, estimation, navigation, guidance, control, signal processing, optimization, algorithms, computer vision, artificial intelligence, data science, software development, drone development or embedded system development.

Applicants are expected to conduct both research and engineering work, and participate in outdoor field trials.

Ability to work independently as well as in teams and good communication skills are essential.
