“This sharing session is to provide insights for the Centre For Aerodynamics & Propulsion group and to learn what are the interesting topics presented in the AIAA Scitech 2023 conference. My topic focus will be on unsteady aerodynamics (such as flapping wing) and application of machine learning on aerodynamic problems.” – Dr. Tay Wee Beng, Senior Research Scientist, TL@NUS |

“The AIAA SciTech Forum is held annually, and it is the world’s largest event for aerospace research, development, and technology. Apart from the technical presentation, there was a panel discussion session, where the challenges and opportunities of pressure gain combustion had been discussed. In the pressure gain combustor, the pressure sensor has usually been employed to measure total pressure. In this talk, I would like to share one new method for the measurement of total pressure. This method was proposed by the Purdue University, where the schlieren image has been used to determine the average total pressure. Additionally, I would like to share the current state of pressure gain combustor development at NASA. Lastly, I will give some info about the facilities available at the University of Maryland (UMD), which were shown by Prof K. H. Yu during an informal lab tour.” – Dr. Chang Po-Hsiung, Senior Research Scientist, TL@NUS |

“The 61st AIAA Science and Technology Forum and Exposition was organized by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and held in National Harbor, Maryland from 23rd – 27th Jan 2023. This forum is the largest of its kind, involving over 5,800 participants representing 50 countries, with 780 technical sessions and more than 2700 technical presentations in over 60 different technical disciplines. For this talk, I would like to share about some of the overall sentiments gained from attending panel discussion sessions on Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) and modeling validation for propulsion of pressure gain combustors.” – Dr. Alvin Teo Zhen Wei, Research Scientist, TL@NUS |
